Changing Environment For Good.... I read Guy Spier’s book, The Education of a Value Investor: My Transformative Quest for Wealth, Wisdom, and Enlightenment , in a single sitting. The section of the book I was most interested in reading was on his charity lunch with Warren Buffett. While details of what transpires at these lunches are fairly scant, there is a whole chapter on it in this book. I tore into that chapter first, eager to find out the pearl of wisdom that eluded me. Finding no secret, I flipped to the front and fell into the story. I had the serendipitous pleasure of running into Guy at the Omaha airport earlier this year. What I loved about him – and his book – is that he’s open about his struggles. In a world where so many of us, myself included , are closed and guarded about things we don’t want other people to know or see, Guy is an open book. He has struggles. He’s human. He’s real. Things are not black and white. He didn’t come out of the womb fully

European Union Suspends Sanction Against Belarus... The European Union has suspended sanctions against Belarus following smooth elections there and the government's decision to release political prisoners. The E.U. said in a statement on Thursday that asset freezes and travel bans on 170 people had been lifted for four months. An arms embargo and restrictions on four others will remain in place. The 28-nation bloc said it would continue to monitor democracy and human rights in Belarus, leaving open the possibility that the sanctions could be permanently lifted. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko was re-elected earlier this month to a fifth term with 83 percent of the vote in polls that were boycotted by the opposition. Opposition Candidate Injured In Burma.... Violence broke out at an election rally of Burma's leading opposition party on Thursday , when men wielding knives and swords attacked the party's candidate for the area and his supporters. Naing Ngan Lin, a member of Nobel laureate and democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD) and the incumbent local member of parliament, was immediately rushed to the hospital, the BBC reported. He received injuries to his head and hands and was fading in and out of consciousness, his wife said. Stopping Hillary Clinton For Prez - Marco Rubio Marco Rubio continued to defend his missed votes in the Senate on Thursday, using the morning after a strong debate performance to argue that his spotty attendance record is all in the service of stopping Hillary Clinton from winning the White House. "As far as votes, I don't like missing votes, I hate it," Rubio said on CNN. "We do our best effort to make it—we've canceled campaign events, especially for important votes, and we will definitely be there for any vote in which our vote would be decisive on making a difference on the outcome." Google Helping To Get Back Your Ex....... Even after you’ve put everything they own in a box to the left , the digital remnants of an ex-boyfriend or girlfriend can be hard to fully shake. Google’s making that bit easier with the latest update to its Photos app on Android, the company announced in a Google+ post . Users will be able to block specific people from appearing in the app’s “Rediscover this day” feature, which (ideally) surfaces heartwarming photos from past years. Facebook has a similar feature called “On This Day” and also offers tools to jettison ghosts of relationships past from your News Feed. Taylor Swift And Her Halloween Photo..... Before she was the biggest pop star on the planet, Taylor Swift was just a weird little girl who, like many of us, enjoyed dressing up in weird Halloween costumes. On Wednesday , she was kind enough to share a photo of one her best childhood costumes: Yes, that's a young Taylor Alison Swift dressed up as a Teletubby. The only problem with this costume, as she points out in the caption, was that this went down before the Teletubbies became wildly popular, so all the other kids wondered why she was dressed as "a yellow pregnant alien." With China's one-child policy ending on Thursday after more than three decades, looking back to when—and why—the strict policy was first implemented shows us how China's demographics have shifted in critical ways. In the 1970s, many countries around the world were worried about population growth , but China, with its combination of a particularly large population and a powerful government, took an extreme approach to the problem. The country initially ran a successful birth control campaign under the slogan "Late, Long and Few," which cut population growth by half between 1970 and 1976. But, as the decade came to an end, that drop leveled off and the nation was still facing food shortages and fear of a repeat of the devastating famine that killed some 30 million people by 1962.
